Nestled on Cornwall’s north coast, this fishing village-turned-art-hub has long inspired artists, writers, and weekend wanderers alike. Whether you’re planning a summer escape or a cosy coastal winter trip, here’s how to make the most of your time in St Ives.
How to Get to St Ives
🚆 By Train: From Paddington it’s a 5 hour train ride into St Erth and then take the train to St Erth and hop on the scenic St Ives Bay Line (one of the UK’s most beautiful train rides and it only costs £5!).
🚗 By Car: From London, it’s about a 5.5-hour drive. Parking can be tricky in town - try Trenwith Car Park and walk down.

Where to Stay in St Ives
I’ve got a few recommendations of stays in St Ives. We opted for an airbnb near Carbis Bay and we loved it! It’s about a 15minute walk to St Ives harbour so I recommend staying in and around St Ives if you want to be near by so I found you few of my other favourites around St Ives and Carbis Bay.
Tregenna Castle Resort (££) – Ideal for sea views. They have self-catering lodges too which are perfect for family stays
Harbour View Cottage (Airbnb) (£)– Cosy stay steps from the harbour.
Boskerris Hotel (££)– boutique hotel with sweeping views over Carbis Bay

Tips for Visiting St Ives
Book ahead in summer — it gets busy fast. I prefer heading to St Ives in the spring or autumn to avoid busy peak summer visitors!
Bring walking shoes – lots of slopes and cobbles.
Sunsets are best from The Island or Porthgwidden Beach.
Tide times matter – beaches can disappear!
Whether you’re a first-timer or a returning visitor, St Ives has a timeless charm that never fades. With a mix of art, nature, and coastal calm, it’s the kind of place that lingers with you long after you’ve left.
